Prathyasha Bhavan,Palluruthy,Cochin– a
home of Hope was opened
in 1987 as a response to
the challenge of the “settlement children”.
All those who were found
begging, gambling or
involved in anti-social
activities, on the street,
in Kerala, be they men,
women or children, were brought by the police to the Relief Settlement
Authorities of Kochi Corporation. Life in the rehabilitation centre was
disorganized and the inmates were engaged in all sorts of vices and bad
habits. We responded to this situation by opening Prathyasha Bhavan and
taking in all the children and girls under our care. Prathyasha Bhavan has
given life and dignity to many children through education, skill training, and
formation of character and home placement, job placement and even
settlement in marriage.
Auxilium Navajeevana, Bangalore is a home for
the homeless, for the runaway, or the unwanted, for the destitute, the
abandoned children and girls of the city. The first Crisis Intervention Centre
was opened on 13th November, 1997 at Chamrajpet. As the number
increased the children attending the school were given another home in
Kamanahalli.
Auxilium Navajeevana, Secunderabad was opened on 8th
December 2005.
Vision : Towards fullness of life.
GOAL : To bring hope and dignity to the lives of girls, by empowering
them to become self-reliant, thus enable them to join the mainstream
of society as dignified, responsible, healthy contributing citizens. The following strategies are used to make the child fit to enter into the main
stream of life: Weaning: Having built a rapport which is an essential element in any
rehabilitation process, the child is weaned out of her exploitative
environment. We do this through motivation and exposure programmes
mingled with medical care and provision of materials for personal hygiene.
We invite them to our shelter home. At their request we admit them. Taming: The child is helped to develop personal hygiene and other healthy
habits. We try to instil in them dignity and self respect through orientation
programmes , workshops, instruction on proper dress code and make
them aware of the socially accepted manners and values. We encourage
and demand from them a sense of responsibility. Our Salesian Charism
with its friendly presence, family spirit, love and affection, good nights,
prayer moments, art and expression, music, celebrations are the best
moments of formation. Training: We provide formal education and skill training. The child is
helped to choose a skill according to her interest and capacity. Saving: The children who have completed their training are placed in jobs.
They earn, spent and save. We closely monitor their progress through
constant enquiries, dialogues and follow up. |
