Breif Profile of Sr. Shyby Chirayath F.M.A

On 22 May 2010, from Holy Cross Hospice, Perumpadap, Ernakulam (India) our dear Sr. CHIRAYATH Thresia Shyby was called by the Father to enjoy the beatific vision.

Sr. Shyby was born on  7.12.1969 at Koodalapad, Ernakulam (India) and was professed on 24 May 1993.  She belonged to the Sacred Heart Province, Bangalore.

Shyby was born in a good catholic family. She was the third child of Pappachan and Anice. She had two elder brothers, one younger brother and a younger sister. She had a happy childhood in the family and with the relatives and neighbors. Shyby learned the fundamentals of Christian faith from her pious parents. From her childhood she had the desire to be a religious. When she was in Class IX she attended a vocation camp in her parish, where she came to know about the Salesian Congregation.

After her Xth Std, Shyby decided to join the Institute of the Daughters of Mary Help of Christians, though the sisters of other Congregations also had invited her. She wanted to become a Salesian sister as she liked to work for the young people. On 25 June 1989 Shyby was accepted as an aspirant at Sacred Heart Convent Katpadi. Shyby made her first profession on 24 May 1993 at Sacred Heart Convent Bangalore. In 1995 she was sent to Shillong, for her Juniorate.

Sr. Shyby has worked mostly as a computer teacher in the various Vocational Training Centers of the Province. After completing her M.Sc in Electronics & Communication in Auxilium College Katpadi, she was placed as the Directress of Nirmal Jyothi Technical Center, Bannerghatta.

Where ever Sr. Shyby had been and what ever work was given to her, she did them with responsibility and enthusiasm. She was active, jovial and creative. Her motto was “To be a bearer of God’s love to the young”. During her formation period, she had lot of difficulties and struggles but she looked at those events as “permitted by God” for her good. She had a special devotion to Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament. She was a simple sister, who loved to live a simple life. She loved music and had a beautiful voice. She had a song always on her lips. She loved her vocation and was a happy sister. She expressed her joy and gratitude for the gift of Salesian vocation she had received, by inviting other young girls to our Institute.

After having diagnosed a tumor between the forehead and the nostril in June 2009 she was under treatment. On last April to the joy of all of us, it was told Sr. Shyby is completely healed. But in reality and to the surprise of all, the disease had spread all over and nothing more could be done. After intense sufferings of about one week our dear Sr. Shyby took her flight to heaven today, at 12.35. pm.

As we pray for the eternal repose of her soul, let us pray that through her intercession many good and holy vocations may be obtained to our Institute and to the Province.
